Vagner Carvalheiro Porto holds a master's and doctorate in Archaeology from the University of São Paulo (USP). As a researcher at USP, he carried out archaeological excavations in partnership with IGESPAR (Institute for the Management of Architectural and Archaeological Heritage, Portugal) and Brown University (USA), focusing on the forms of contact between the Roman Empire and local populations in Portugal, between 2006 and 2011. He also worked as a researcher at USP in collaboration with Tel Aviv University, carrying out excavations in Apollonia, Israel, from 1999 to 2003. He is currently carrying out archaeological research at the site of Tel Dor, Israel (FAPESP process 2020/16698-0; CNPq process 311883/2023-0).He is currently a professor in the Graduate Program in Archaeology at USP's Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology and was a researcher in the Sabbatical Year program at USP's Institute for Advanced Studies (IEA-USP) in 2022. He is the current Chairman of the MAE-USP Culture and Outreach Committee.He has experience in the field of Archaeology, with an emphasis on Mediterranean and Near Eastern Archaeology, working mainly on the following subjects: Provincial Roman Archaeology, Numismatics of the Ancient World, Exhibition Curatorship, Musealization of Archaeological Collections and Digital Humanities. He is the coordinator of LARP (USP's Provincial Roman Archaeology Laboratory), where he conducts research into the Roman provinces of Syria-Palestine and the Iberian Peninsula. He coordinates the agreement with the Università degli Studi di Palermo, Italy, in partnership with professors Michele Cometa and Leonardo Fuduli. She coordinates the agreement with the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster, Germany, in partnership with Professors Achim Lichtenberger, Hans Beck and Maria Cristina Kormikiari.He also coordinates the CNPq Research Groups on Ancient Numismatics and ARISE - Interactive Archaeology and Electronic Simulations. He is co-editor-in-chief of the Journal of the Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology at USP. He has a CNPq Productivity scholarship, level 2. (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
